Week 9: San Francisco

This past weekend we headed down to the bay area to catch up with Sosa, Krasi, and Blake.  We also went for a little run Sunday morning.

Breakfast in Palo Alto
Blake and Zelda

Sosa waving us into a ... wait for it ... Mexican restaurant.
Krasi minds the birds
San Francisco!
Doggy bag?
Our lodgings for Sat night: The Hyatt.
Inside the hotel ... kind of epic ... they even had a sphere!  (Think: "Hello, my name is Jerry")

Weeks 6-8: Boeing, Vancouver, Olympic NP

As we blew right past the half-way point of the Bromission, we remained quite busy.

Aubry visited for a few weeks, spending her days visiting the many attractions in the Seattle area including the air museum, aquarium, science center, zoo, and probably half a dozen others I can't recall.

In the meantime Pieter managed to organize a crack team an throw together a POPL paper in only 3 weeks (be impressed).  As for my work, it looks like I'm on track for an ICSE submission on August 20th.

The weekend before last Aubry and I drove up to Everett to check out the Boeing plant which features the world's largest building by volume (they say they could fit all of Disney land plus parking inside it).  We got a chance to see assembly of a number of aircraft including 747s, 777s, and the new 787 Dreamliner.  Unfortunately they don't allow pictures (lest we be spies for Airbus) so you'll have to take our word for the awesomeness of it.  After Boeing we spend the rest of the day in vancouver, taking in the scenery.

This past weekend, A/V and I drove to the Olympic peninsula and saw much of Olympic National Park.  We enjoyed the foggy black-sand beaches but were particularly impressed by the rainforest areas ... best characterized by enormously tall trees, lush ferns, and cold mountain streams full of energetic fish.

Here are some of my favorite pictures:
