Today was our first day of mostly I-90 driving. The day started sunny, so we did 2-hour shifts, on average, to avoid staring at the sun for too long later in the day. Fortunately, the weather caught up with us, and it got nice and cloudy by the time we would've been driving straight into the sun.
Once on I-90 for a bit, we had lunch in Murdo, SD, around 3pm Central Time (4pm EDT). The food was somehow both microwaved and deep dried at the same time. Over lunch, we decided to take the Badlands National Park detour, which was a few hours' drive away. The Badlands were pretty awesome (cf. pictures in a future post), and it was a very welcome break from the mostly ruler-straight interstates we'd been on for most of the day. Notable event: we were told to follow a 'pilot car' for part of the trip to help us avoid the construction workers.
After the Badlands, we had a relatively short trip on I-90 to Rapid City, where we ate delicous steak dinners at TGIF. As I write this, we're entering Keystone, a few miles away from Mount Rushmore. We'll have to post this later tonight, since we've been largely internetless (and frequently signal-less in general) today.
Pictures from earlier today: our pack horse (the Jedi) this morning in Iowa; a house and some tires on wheels, and even bigger tires on wheels. Note the flatness of South Dakota.
Raymano will be posting more of today's pictures in the near future.
Good night for the both of you, sleep well!
ReplyDeleteWe stopped in Murdo to check out the car museum... well, I did, anyway; Kar decided that would be a good time to call her family.
